Life long relationship
Daughters are always Daughters
I worked as an ENT specialist in Civil Hospital Kapurthala for about 20 years. There were many clinical encounters that shaped my vision.
A son is a son till he has a wife
One of my patients Mr. Sudesh Sharma who later became a lifelong friend often used to say “ A son is a son till he has a wife but a daughter is a daughter Life long relationship. I have a personal experience when a middle-aged lady walked in my Jam-packed OPD with her old mother in her late eighties.
Wishing me with a polite Namastee she settled her mother in the examining chair. Making her comfortable she turned towards me and remarked “Sir” this is our second visit. All is fine now “Bus ab inke kanon me uncha suntan ha aap pe bahut vishwas hain.” I examined and did the best possible.
Hard-pressed for time because of busy hours. I assured them of the best outcome. The lady then requested with folding hand, “Sir” can I bring her in the evening for the next visit as it will be easy for me. I asked for the reason and she told that she comes from Rajpura as she is married there the only purpose of visiting Kapurthala was to get the mother examined.
I Inquired if she was alone in this city. “ No sir she lives with two of my brothers. Sir, they are busy, is like mata ji ko laa nahin sakte” the voice didn’t carry any malice or regret. I was moved that this daughter takes so much of inconvenience a number of times to see her mother healthy and happy but uttering not a single word against her brothers
who hardly bother. “I nodded “Yes” , always there for your mother’s service Sister”,
After completing my work in the OPD as I entered my SMO office for a meeting and read the poster on the wall “ Beti Bachao Beti Parrao” the same morning encounter flash before my eyes and I remarked Sir it should be “Beti Bachao, Laad laddao Kyun ki bahut mumkin hain ki umar ki dhalti shyam mein wo hi andhe ki lathi hogi” after narrating them the entire incident life long relationship
